Australian 3G Network Shutdown
UPDATED: 18 Apr 2024
In 2024, all major mobile service providers in Australia will be discontinuing their 3G networks.
Telstra has specified that their 3G network will cease operations by the end of June 2024. Consequently, any devices relying on 3G connectivity will become non-functional. To ensure continued operation, it will be necessary to upgrade these devices to support 4G technology.
The environmental monitoring system equipped with telemetry provided by Kenelec Scientific will be affected by the 3G shutdown. To ensure the uninterrupted operation of these devices, we recommend replacing the existing modem/logger with the Pervasive Agent G2+ with 4G capability. For detailed information, please refer to our Pervasive Telementry AgentG2+ product page.
What to do?
Send in your enclosure system to Kenelec Scientific for the telemetry upgrade before June 2024.
We recommend including this upgrade when you send in your DustTrak for its annual calibration; when filling out the RMA form, please specify the need for the telemetry upgrade and include a purchase order (PO) to cover the associated costs. This will help us process your request without any unnecessary delays.
Information we need from you:
- Serial number of the system that needs upgrading, and
- Purchase order (if you have an existing account with us) OR
- Upfront payment (if you do not have an existing account with us)
The time required to upgrade is 1-2 weeks after we receive the enclosure and PO / payment (you do not need to send in the DustTrak unit).
What if I don’t upgrade?
Your environmental monitoring system will be unable to log any data once the 3G network is shut down.
